Protecting the Process.
When I started my cold process journey it was a lot to take in. So much new information, its hard to know which way to go when it comes to soap! Finding the right ingredients was top priority. I wanted to make sure only the truest and purest elements came together to create the perfect body care. I just knew if God created us, the world, and everything in it, surely his plan was for us to self sustain all that came from his hand. Here my passion was born.
All oils are not created equal! Who knew?! Suddenly I was learning all these methods of oil extractions an their differences to distinguish which was the purest technique that would capture all the rich benefits from the plants an their fruits. Expeller pressed and cold pressed are my top picks when it comes to processing oils. Expeller pressed is when a machine is used to apply pressure to the nut, fruit, or seed. Cold pressed is merely the same while controlling the temperature below a certain degree. While other processes use solvents such as Hexane to help extract the oil. However it has been said, while in extraction and recovery processes, hexane is released into the environment that react with the pollutants to form ozone and photo chemicals.
Butters take patience. To preserve all the rich benefits packed inside these precious balms, you simply can not just melt them like most. Unrefined oils an butters retain their excellent properties by staying cool. Thus any product formulation using these takes extra love an care. A double boil method is used to ensure the balms retain their rich skin loving properties! Wheeeew its an investment for healthy skin! && Its worth it!!
Now unrefined butters an hard oils come with strong scents an colors. Its loved or hated. And although I’m not a huge fan of unrefined smell, I cant pass up the real and rawness of what it means. Refining removes most the color an scent and in the process strips most of the healing properties too. While over all you will still have an all natural ingredient, it will lack the skin regenerating benefits we’re seeking!! The refining process uses high heat an sometimes otherwise Hexane. The high temperature destroys the best part of the plant.
Organic is another huge factor when it comes to All natural skin care products. Organic is defined as being produced or involving production without the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or other artificial agents. I think that should be held in high regard when trying to maintain a products integrity. I always go for organic when possible. If Im purposely making a product with the sole purpose of cutting out chemicals, an artificial ingredients, organic only makes sense.
I think choosing a product that has the cleanest an truest process is important. Not only could you be adding an ingredient that has lost almost all its skin loving properties and make it presence in your product pointless, you could unknowingly be supporting unethical harvesting environments. And that changes everything.
